Somnipathy. Now there’s a fancy term for a medical disorder of a person’s sleep patterns. Did you know that there are about 20 common sleep disorders that fall under this term? The problem I’m most familiar with – insomnia – is a sleep disorder in which people have trouble sleeping. Almost half of adults experience at least one episode of insomnia in a given year. Count me among the sleep deprived! So what’s the big deal? Well, according to the National Institute for Health, insomnia can increase your risk for mental health problems, especially depression, and other health concerns, even obesity, strokes, and heart disease. Better sleep could just save your life!
Watch Arianna Huffington’s TED talk on the importance of sleep.
I’ll send you information, advice, and reminders every day for 30 days that will improve your sleep habits – as long as you commit to making some changes. The Challenge will integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) techniques that are proven to improve the quantity and quality of sleep. But we’re also going to have a little fun with this Challenge! We’ll be using guided imagery to present you with a sleep story (Rated G) each evening that will ease you into a peaceful slumber.
Sure! The sleep stories transport you into some of the most amazing settings in the world. You’ll join a trek to the incredible Machu Picchu in Peru, walk for miles on the Great Wall of China, climb aboard a hot air balloon as the sun rises over the Serengeti, visit the Pyramids aboard a camel, and take in the magic of the northern lights from Norway. Each journey will leave you tired, contented, relaxed, and thankful as you are tucked away in your safe and luxurious accommodations. Sweet Dreams!
Maybe. The World Edition travels around the globe as the theme of the sleep stories. If there’s a demand, I’d like to add additional editions, such as a Europe Edition and an USA National Park Edition.
To get a good night’s sleep, you’ll need to turn your bedroom into an oasis and practice good habits. Cornerstone habits include:
